Backing up the Windows Registry

The Windows registry is a very important part of your operating system and most times, should be left alone. However, sometimes our curiousity gets the best of us, or someone gives us a tip on how to improve our computer and suggests editing a file in the Windows registry. If you are not sure of what you are doing, you should stay away from the registry, however if you really have to, then back up the registry to a safe spot before you make any changes, so that if something goes drastically wrong, you can simply restore the original registry.

Here's how to create a backup:

Click Start, Run and type in regedit. On the next screen, click File and then Export. Pick a location to export the file to and select a name for the file and click Save.

To restore the registry:

Click Start, Run and type in regedit. Click on File, Import and browse to the location of your previously saved file and click Save. Your tampered Registry will be replaced with the one you backed up earlier.

Until next time, some parting advice - Never click a link in an email from someone you don't know. You could end up with your browser being hijacked, continuous popups, spyware and/or adware installed (yes, it can happen without you knowing). Computer foul-ups are easier to prevent than remove. If you don't know how, email me at techtips@danima.com.

:: MONTHLY MARKETING ARTICLE

Monthly E-Marketing Article Working On, Not Just In Your Business!
-- by Dave Rotella

Recently, my partner Nick and I visited with a business consulting firm, Outside The Box Consulting to assist us in focusing on the direction of our business. In a very informative half-day session (with more to come), we both learned quite a bit about our business and what we need to do to reach the goals that we have set for DANIMA. This included everything from paying closer attention to our ROTI (Return On Time Invested) to re-visiting our business' long-term goals. The one point that was made early on in the session was that as a business owner in order for your business to grow and to be successful you should be spending 20% of your time working on, not in your business. Probably one of the hardest things for an entrepreneur to do is to break away from doing the hands on work and getting the job done (it still is for me). However, if we don't take the time to work on growing our business and our visions we will work ourselves to a poor and early grave.

So, how does this apply to E-business? Well, when people work on their business they tend to forget that a big part of their business in today's Net Economy is their web presence. Again, I am not saying that you should be actually working on the site yourself. What I'm referring to is taking the time to re-visit the goal of your site. Is it meeting the needs of the business? Is it outdated? Are people visiting your site (utilize and analyze your web site stats - if you don't have them, get them). If so, are you giving them reason to come back to your site? These are just a few questions you may ask yourself when you are working on your business.
