    :: ANOTHER AWARD FOR DANIMA

    DANIMA Newsletter The staff at DANIMA worked very hard over the past year re-designing and developing the new DANIMA Corporate site. All new features, including a client area, full e-commerce integration, new domain search capabilities, etc., have led to an increase in traffic to the site and now a 2003 Canadian Web Award. The Canadian Web Awards have rated www.danima.com as an "Excellent" Canadian Site. The criteria for the award is based on whether your site is Canadian-friendly, provides unique and informative content, and the site is beneficial to the Canadian consumer!

    The Canadian Web Awards have become a trusted source for independent website reviews. At the end of the year they will be determining "The Website of the Year" for each rating category. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed.

    :: MONTHLY MARKETING ARTICLE

    Monthly E-Marketing Article Making Your Web Site Work For You!
    -- by David Rotella Jr.

    Someone designed it. You paid for it. Now, don't let it just sit there. Make your web site work for you!

    All too often I hear people say "I have a site but it doesn't get a lot of traffic" or "no one seems to be using my site, why?" In the past I've talked about creating company E-Newsletters to send to current and potential clients. As well, I have gone into details about the back-end of your site and how to code your site properly to increase search engine rankings (meta tags, alt tags, etc). A few issues back, I also wrote a 2-part article on utilizing traditional marketing to drive traffic to your site. All of these are important factors in increasing traffic to your site.

    Today, however, I want to talk about using your web site to your advantage. Using your web site to save you and your staff time, which ultimately parlays into saving money. And finally, using your site to provide your visitors/clients with an informative and time-saving experience. Look at how easy on-line banking is. It's a win-win situation. It saves the bank money and it makes it convenient for the consumer to simply login, pay bills, transfer funds, etc. (I just finished doing my banking over a coffee and a bagel). The banks are making their sites work for them. You should be too!

    Case in point, we designed a corporate site for a company that is made up of several divisions. Each division has several distinct people-oriented programs. Each of these programs has their own section on this very comprehensive site. One of the programs has a very progressive manager who was extremely open-minded in our initial consultations. This person realized that their area of the web site could be beneficial to both them and their clients. Every business or, in this case, program has a set of procedures that are followed when dealing with clients or particular tasks.

    In this case, the program was set up in such a way that the client had to come in and meet with the manager several times before the program was completed. If the client required resources, they had to be faxed back and forth, mailed, or the client would have to come in, yet again, to receive the required documents. So, in our consultation we looked at how we could streamline the process on-line to provide the client with as much information on the program and the process as possible. The intention was to decrease the amount of times the client had to physically come in to the building and to decrease the amount of phone calls and faxing that was required to obtain the necessary documentation and program materials. Without going into too much detail, we developed a password protected area for clients to access all of their resources, created databased on-line forms to replace the hard-copy forms, and most importantly created an easy-to-use administration area for the manager and the client to maintain information, query information, statistics, etc.

    With that said, how can you streamline your business procedures on-line? Does it not make sense to use this great marketing tool to do more than just act as a brochure! Why not make your web site work for you and your clients? How do you get started, right? First of all, ask yourself these questions:

    1. Does my site alleviate work for me or my staff. If so, how?
    2. If it does not, then what tasks are done manually that could be integrated with my existing web site (frequently asked questions, documentation)?
    3. Does my site make it more convenient for my visitors/clients to use my services or purchase my product? If so, how?
    4. If not, then how can I ensure that all of my services and products are easily accessible on-line?
    5. Does my site provide potential customers with an informative and effective experience - do they get the information they require, easily?
    In other words, evaluate your business procedures and put yourself in the mind of the web consumer. Bottom line is, if your current clients are able to use your site to access resources, update their information, make their payments, etc. (not having to drive to your office to make the payment, pick up the resources, etc.) then they will be much happier! It will also save your staff time, freeing them up to perform more productive tasks. Win-win! Oh yeah, and you save money! Win-win-win!

    As I ask in every article: Is it easy? Not at all! Does it take a lot of work? Yes, initially. But once you have these on-line systems or procedures in place you will not only begin saving time but you'll begin saving money. Don't let your web site collect dust; use it to the benefit of you and your clients. Once you have, come back and give me the stats on the traffic visiting your site! I'm not a bettin' man, but I'm pretty sure the traffic will increase and so will your business.

    After all....that's the bottom-line, right?
