:: IT'S ONWARD AND UPWARD FOR DANIMA
|
|
As of Monday, July 28, 2003, DANIMA part-owner and Director of Web Development and Marketing, Dave Rotella Jr. will be putting his best foot forward and focusing all of his energies on DANIMA. After 10 years with the Business Education Council of Niagara, the last 4 years as Web Project Developer, Dave is leaving behind his dual-life and concentrating solely on the DANIMA business.
The DANIMA team has always prided ourselves in providing excellent customer service. Our motto is, and has always been, "your business is our business". To take that one step further, the DANIMA team felt that it was in the best interest of the business to begin providing our clients with full-time customer service. Clients will now have access to a DANIMA staff member during working hours, as well as our continued evening access.
For the first time since our inception in 1999, a member of the DANIMA team will be available to meet with you and/or take your calls during your normal working hours. That is the number one reason for taking this big step.
In addition, from a business perspective, having a team member concentrating on the business 60+ hours a week will allow DANIMA to grow various aspects of the business, co-ordinate projects and project teams more effectively, provide higher quality services, and take the business to different heights. We've always been working hard and long hours to ensure client satisfaction - we're just taking it one step further.
We are eagerly awaiting this new phase of our business and believe this is just the beginning of bigger and better things. It's onward and upward from here!

:: CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER
|
|
Two members of DANIMA's team received some great news this past week!
A heartfelt congratulations to Warren Rees (Systems Administrator extraordinaire) on his new appointment as Library Systems Administrator at Brock University. Warren has worked closely with DANIMA for the past 3 years and has been an integral part of our growth and success. His past 4 years as Systems Administrator for the Business Education Council provided him with the practical experience needed to move forward. We are pleased to know that he will still only be a stone's throw away and will continue to assist the DANIMA team with his wide range of skills!
Also, our very talented co-op student, Will Farrell, from Westpark Secondary School in St. Catharines, Ontario was accepted into Waterloo University's Electrical Engineering program. Will assisted in the development of Small Business Club's new Flash Meeting Presentation, Jewel of Niagara's Flash introduction page, Spencer Hockey's web site, and much, much more. We will see more of Will as he continues working for DANIMA on a contract basis over the summer and during the upcoming school year.
The DANIMA team would like to congratulate Warren and Will on their new found success. The future's definitely looking brighter!

On Saturday, June 28th the DANIMA team gathered for a round of golf, a few BBQ'd sausages, cold beverages, and some great tunes. The small, but fun event, was the beginning, of what we hope to be, the DANIMA Annual Golf & BBQ!
Highlights:

DANIMA partner, Alex Erazo played his first round of golf since
arriving in Canada via Ecuador. He still can't believe that you
can drink beer while playing a sport! Co-op student Will Farrell
spent the entire day drinking Root Beer and badgering Dave and
Nick for more work (crazy kid). Designer extraoidonaire, Dave Bush,
along with Dave Rotella and Nick Svab provided the young folks
at the BBQ (Will, Warren and Vip) with a Retro-history of
music, games and clothing. Vip is still trying to figure out
what the heck Pong and 8-Tracks are!
The weather was great, the conversation was stimulating and nobody went home hungry. All-in-all it was a great day. Thanks again, to all of the DANIMA team for helping make this past year a success. We'll see you again next year for an even bigger event. In the meantime, please write an essay on the following topic "Macromedia's DreamWeaver: Does it really save you time?". Until then...keep your eye on the ball and follow through!

:: NEW EQUIPMENT, BETTER SERVICE!
|
|
The staff at DANIMA would like to thank all our hosting customers for their
patience and understanding this past month. We experienced short periods
of unexpected downtime during the early part of June while our technical
staff has been hard at work upgrading our servers with newer and faster
equipment to better suit your needs.
Our philosophy is to provide you the best service we possibly can. Therefore,
as our client list expands, our need for faster, more reliable equipment
grows, so the decision was made to upgrade equipment and move to a faster
location in Toronto. In case you haven't noticed, your site comes up much
quicker than before - enjoy the speed!

Content Management at Affordable Prices?
-- by David Rotella Jr.
The other day my partner and I had a lunch meeting with a potential business partner. During the course of the meeting this person used a term several times that most web and database developers understand - Content Management Systems (CMS)!
I immediately looked over at my partner and said "ya know...it's exactly like the adminstration areas we develop for our clients". Sure, we know that Administration Area doesn't have the techy-ring to it like Content Management System does, but we've used the term for quite some time and we're quite attached to it!
But this person raised a very important point, unknowingly, and made us think. The companies that are selling Content Management Systems to their clients are charging fairly high prices - sometimes extremely high prices - for this technology. It seemed to me, at least at that moment, that we are missing the boat in this web-game and not utilizing the powerful lingo (tech-talk) that exists in today's E-World. You'd think that with all the research I do on this topic that these techno-terms would just flow off my tongue like the words to Born to Run (never enough Springsteen references for my money).
You see, at first I wanted to head immediately to my laptop to start making the changes to the terminology on our site, but then I realized that many of these terms tend to sound more difficult and impressive than they really are. Many companies are out there touting the fact that they build extremely functional and effective Content Management Systems, and they do! Most of them have high price tags on them. Not a problem when you are dealing
with large corporations or government funded organizations who have the money to spend, but what about the small businesses who need that functionality but can't afford CMS?
Before I answer that humour me and let's take a look at the definition of CMS:
Content Management Systems (CMS) are used to store and subsequently find and retrieve large amounts of data. Content Management Systems work by indexing text, audio clips, images, etc., within a database. In addition, CMS often provide version control and check in/check out capabilities. Using robust built-in search capabilities, users can quickly find a piece of content from within a database by typing in keywords, the date the element was created, the name of the author, or other search criteria.
Wow, impressive. CMS should cost you an arm and a leg. Well, sure if it's a full blown system with thousands and thousands (even millions) of records that need to be databased or a full-inventory control system, but not if you are a small business who just wants to database your clients, be able to search for records, update content dynamically, archive articles, etc. And that's where DANIMA comes in. We CAN build you a Content Management System for your web site or your E-business at a very affordable rate. The difference is, we call it an "Administrative Area" or a "Members Area", but the functionality is the same. The key is that this system will benefit your business and can make the updating of your web site and marketing to your clients effortless for you and your staff. If you are interested in learning more about "Administrative Areas" or "Content Management" for your web site contact us at design@danima.com.
At DANIMA we can make it affordable for your E-business to have a high-end Content Management System that will help save you money and help make your web site more functional and effective!
After all, isn't this newsletter mail-out a Content Management System at work?
