There are many extensions other than the globally standard ".com". There are country extensions such as ".ca" or ".it". And though a ".com" domain is your best choice, if you do purchase a different extension, you have to make sure you market it! That's the key. Even if you you have a domain with a ".com" extension it's no good to you if you don't get the name out there via traditional marketing avenues (business cards, ads, signage, etc.) and, of course, through E-marketing such as Search Engine Optimization and SearchEngine Submissions!
