What is Web Site Hosting?
Put very simply, it’s the physical location of the files that make up a web site. Think about it this way, if you build a home you require land to put that house on, correct? And for that land Mr. Government requires you to pay "property tax". Web hosting is the same, but instead of a piece of land you are getting "space" on a web server and instead of "property tax" you are paying "hosting fees". There’s actually a lot more to it than that, but that’s our headache, not yours!
If you contract us to design and develop your web site, we will need to place it on a server connected to the Internet so that visitors can gain access to it. There are two options:
1. We can upload your web site to your server or to that of your Internet Service Provider. This is not our preferred option, as it is more time consuming to liaise with you and your ISP to gain access to the servers, however, we want to ensure that you are satisfied.
2. Alternatively, we can host your site for you. This is our preferred option as we have more control over the process, we can offer premium services without the premium and because it’s easier for us, it’s cheaper for you.
There is one important step that you cannot discount before looking at web hosting and that’s purchasing your domain name (web site address).
